One bad fall can lead to health complications. This is why the Elbowoods Memorial Health Center and NDSU will hold fall prevention classes this fall in each segment (with enough participants aged 60+).

Stepping Strong is a 7-week fall prevention program that runs for 2 hours each week and covers various topics, including:
  • Low-impact functional, balance, and strength-building exercises
  • How to navigate hazardous surfaces in poor weather
  • What steps to take after a fall and how to recover safely
  • How to maintain an active lifestyle
Professionals from various fields will be present, including physical therapy, vision, hearing, and pharmacy. They will also provide referrals, when necessary, conduct shoe evaluations, and the Public Health Nursing department will offer a home visit to perform a risk assessment.

This survey assesses the best dates and times for elders in each community to attend all the classes.
